A beautiful moquette upholstered sofa dating to the Art Deco period of the early 20th century.

Here we have a fabulous oak art deco style sofa standing on its original casters, with bun feet and a straight front carved apron. On either side we have two oak columns with bulbous carved vase supports rising to the oak arms which taper out towards the front. The back rest is wide and deep and the seat itself is good and firm with nice padded cushions. The sofa is upholstered in the original moquette fabric with a lovely delicate foliate design. A very nice sofa with a lot of character.

5 Edwardian Turner's Watercolours at Farnley Hall

A set of five wonderful souvenir books dating to the Edwardian period of the early 20th century.

Here we have a set of five collectable books detailing a selection of beautiful watercolours by J.M.W. Turner from the collection held at Farnley Hall in Yorkshire, owned by Mr. Walter Ramsden Hawkesworth Fawkes in the early 19th century when Turner became acquainted with him. Each black papered cord bound book is printed with the words “Turner’s Watercolours at Farnley Hall” with the coat of arms for the Fawkes family and Parts I to V in roman rumerals. Inside there are a series of paper plates with information about the gallery and the artist, along with superb colour plates with captioned tissue-guards. This is a wonderful set and sure to grow in value.

Edwardian Munsey & Co Cambridge Pewter Tankard

A lovely pewter tankard dating to the Edwardian period of the 20th century. Here we have a pewter tankard stamped on the base with the name Munsey & Co LTD Cambridge. The base is of glass, whilst the base rim is slightly flared from the main body, which tapers inwards slightly towards the mouth piece. Engraved on the tankard itself is a shield with a series of crowns and three downward stripes. The handle is typical to these pewter tankards with a slight serpentine twist at the ends. A very nice tankard.

Made of solid mahogany and rosewood, the chairs stand on beautiful ring turned tapering legs with splayed rear legs. Surmounted above are period chenille fabric drop in seats in good condition. Above this are stunning bar back top rails and double tulip central splat bars beneath.

A strikingly dashing gentlemans Victorian style bowler hat dating to the mid 20th century.

Here we have a fabulous and stylish black felt bowler hat with a black silk ribbon. Made by JW Gargett & Son “The Kingly Hatters” as it says on the label inside, along with a Royal symbol of a crown above. Inside we have a leather band with JW Gargett embossed on the front, all sewn in to a high quality. The hat itself is solid and has that satisfying clunk bowler hats are famed for. A very stylish hat with a lot of character, perfect for the discerning gentleman or chap on his way to work in our glorious English Autumn. This hat is a 7 and 1/8 in English size and 7 and 1/4 in American.

Here is a wonderful Monte Carlo reproduction poster dating to the latter half of the 20th century, printed in the last 25 years.

Here we have a fabulous poster depicting an immacuately dressed gentleman shooting a shotgun off into the distance whilst his trusty dog picks up a downed pigeon in the background. Beside him are some rather arty red flags fluttering in the wind. The whole piece is very lazily upper class, very decorative and whilst it is a replica of a quite well known poster it is very good.

Here is a fabulous reproduction Art Deco poster dating to the latter half of the 20th century.

This poster depicts a young couple, immaculately dressed in the fashion of the era. The gent is smoking a thin cheroot and sipping a small glass of the Benedictine which sits on the table between them. His monocle is high, his eyebrows raised, his moustache well turned. The girl opposite is leaning in staring at him, with her hair tied up in a flower, her bright yellow low cut dress looking very nice. A wonderful poster with a lot of character.

Victorian British Empire Ladies Scrap Book

Here is an absolutely stunning ladies scrap book dating to the Victorian period of the 19th century.

Here we have a fine physical example of the Victorian passtime of collecting and storing ephemera in scrap books to pass down from mother to daughter, to daughter and so on. With the advent of the industrial revolution and the sudden affluence experienced by the middle classes, ladies and gentlemen suddenly had a lot more time on their hands, they therefore created hobbies for themselves. Gentlemen continued smoking fine tobacco, drinking fine whisky, discussing politics and religion over whisky after a days shooting and cricket and ladies would begin to take up embroidery, poetry, reading and scrap booking. The scraps in this particular book are wonderful, and were clearly compiled by a very typical Victorian British lady, she has arranged the images wonderfully, with a strong Christian and British military bias. Bound in a linen outer cover with a soft card insert, each page is stacked full of images of soldiers, animals, women, children, ladies reading, knitting, lovers embracing and all manner of religious and political messages. An absolutely wonderful item, and considering how few these scrap books will one day be, this one deserves a good home that will allow it to continue being handed down mother to daughter as the relic of a sadly bygone era of ethics and manners.

Victorian Drop Arm Heraldry Chesterfield Sofa

Here is a drop arm sofa dating to the Victorian period of the 19th century.

Standing on pine turned bun feet with original castors this lovely sofa features a right hand drop arm that has a single setting that can be easily adjusted. As photographed the arm drops down allowing the sofa to become more like a chaise longue, for daytime sleeping or stretching out. The upholstery is in the period style, a wonderful array of herladry designs, coats of arms and crowns, highly decorative and very appealing to the eye. A wonderful sofa with a lot of character that is perfect for the Victorian themed home.

Antique Edwardian Alfred Lord Tennyson King Arthur Poem Book

A beautiful coloured book of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem La Morte De Arthur dating to the Edwardian period of the 20th century circa 1912.

This fabulous book is a later and highly decorative edition of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s sweeping epic poem about the life and death of the Medieval King Arthur. This edition is illuminated by the famous bookbinder Alberto Sangorski. In the back we have the declaration “Here ends Morte De Arthur, a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson as designed, written out and illuminated by Alberto Sangorski, reproduced by the Graphic Engraving Company for Messrs Chatto & Windus, who publish the volume at 111 St Martins Lane London, MCMXII (1912)”. The book itself is a stunning piece of artwork, with each page designed with the utmost care, the calligraphy is exquisite and the small paintings and details on each page are beautiful. A very nice book with a lot of history by one of the greatest literary power houses of the Victorian period and of the British Imperial heyday.

Victorian British Empire Colonial Memento Map 1886

An absolutely wonderful memento of the Colonial & Indian exhibition in Canada dating to the Victorian period of the 19th century circa 1886.

Here we have a stunning example of Victorian Imperial art with the classic arrogance and pomposity the British Empire was famed for. This particular memento was made for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition of 1886 which was opened by Queen Victoria in South Kensington. As with all of the Imperial exhibitions and art shows of the late Empire, a great deal of ephemera and souvenirs were produced, and here we have what would have even then been quite a collectors item. In the centre is a map of the world with the territories of the Empire marked in red. Above this sits a compass with the well known saying “The Empire on which the Sun never sets” with a compass showing in what British territories it is daytime no matter what the hour. Above this is a classic piece of Imperial imagery, Britannia with the nations offering tribute to her, there is Africa with corn, Australia with animals, India with fruit and so on, above we have the coat of arms of the British throne with the Lion rampant and the chained Unicorn. Underneath there are the arms and heraldry of various countries and Imperial states and a picture of Queen Victoria and H.R.H The Prince of Wales (Edward, one day to be King Edward VII). Down to the bottom left and right we have pictures of the Marquis of Lorne, Governer General of Canada during the latter part of Victorias reign and Sir P. Cunliffe-Owen, the organiser of the Kensington exhibitions. Beside them stand liberty, holding her scales and sword with the blindfold over her eyes and fame standing with her trumpet and laurel. Decorated around the edges of this detail heavy piece we have examples of Imperial might across the world, Australian soldiers in the Sudan, Canadian voyagers on the Nile, the Indian Palace, the Indian Gateway, the Indian Falls and the Golden Trophy. All in all this is a stunning piece of history and given the proper care would look superb in any Victorian themed house.

Vintage Lady's Own Sewing Kit Accessories

A lovely selection of lady’s sewing accessories dating from between the Edwardian period of the early 20th century up to relatively recent times.

Firstly we have a small tin bearing a highly decorative coat of arms of a horse and a ram rampant against a shield emblazoned, beside which are grey flowers. The tin contains the original pins still with their vibrantly coloured heads and all without rust. Evidently they were to be used in a lady’s handbag in case her dress or clothing ripped during a dance and she needed to fix it up quickly in the bathroom, hence the “toilet pin box”. This tin is dated circa 1900. Next we have a rather fetching lipstick shaped tin with gilt head, gilt trim and a wonderful foliage print. Inside are tools for unhooking threads, crosstitching and needle work, all again for the quick repair whilst out on the town. Finally we have a small bag with a very Cath Kidston print that appears to be relatively recent. Inside is a plastic pouch which contains a small pair of scissors for adjusting clothes, a tape measure in a classic vintage style, as well as a sola powered calculator for working out measurements and finally a small notepad to jot down details. In all a very quirky little set that appears to have been at once well loved and yet unused.

Victorian James Dixon & Sons Silver Plated Tea Kettle

A stunning silver tea kettle and tray dating to the Victorian period of the late 19th century. Here we have an absolutely wonderful Victorian silver plated tea kettle, with a really quirky stand and gas heater with a beautifully ornate tray. Hallmarked James Dixon & Sons and featuring fabulous rococo style decoration all over. The teapot sits on three cabriole legs with pad feet rising to a large cauldron style body with a beautiful wide lipped lid with hinge. A horizontal bow shaped handle rises up over the top of the teapot keeping it away from the heat, with four prongs extending from the body to sit on the stand. The stand itself is modelled to look like a hasty campfire set up, with cross beam sticks holding up the oil burner that provides the flame to heat the tea, again all carved with fabulous ornation and very quirky. The tray continues to rococo style foliage theme and is hallmarked EPNS. A very, very nice little item that we really like, very interesting and a guarrenteed talking point in any home, on display or in use.

A fabulous upholstered pair of oak armchairs and matching sofas dating in constuction to the art deco period of the 1930’s.

Of good design, made of solid oak, the chairs stand on stunning carved legs with ornate pilasters above and a fabulous carved apron to centre. Upholstered with a beautiful green fabric that is in good condition all around. good shaped arms and back rests. Very comfy, very stylish.

White Star Line Souvenirs

A beautiful original White Star Line pictorial souvenir of the New M.V. Britannic circa early 1930’s. The souvenir is a fold out leaflet comprising eight double sided panels printed in black, white and red. The reverse shows the Britannic in all its glory, preparing for a cross Atlantic voyage. The inside comprises two panels giving the history of the Britannic as the largest Cabin liner of its day, along with a description of the ship and its various dining halls and ball rooms. The remaining six panels show beautiful drawings of the rooms themselves and the ornate furniture they contained, displaying the lavish opulence White Star was famed for.

And…

A beautiful original White Star Dominion Line Passenger List to Canada on the SS Regina from Liverpool to Quebec and Montreal (via Belfast) on Friday the 29th August 1924. The Passenger List is a card cover with 28 pages of information including the names of every passenger onboard. As well as information for cabin passengers, detailing the facilities and various amusements on board, the booklet includes a list of times and distances travelled during the journey and other destinations White Star sail to.

Victorian Carved Oak Jacobean Revival Sideboard

A stunning Jacobean revival carved oak sideboard dating from the Victorian era of the 19th century circa 1890’s.

This piece comes in very good condition, beautifully carved all over with lion mouth handles on the three drawers and classical foliage designs on all of the Jacobean period influenced panels. Made from solid oak and with details on every available surface. Coming in two pieces, the top half has bulbous turned support pillars below a central locker with carved door, flanked by shelves either side and a bevelled edge mirror on the upright rear. Featuring a carved open arcade shelf and a beautiful carved cornice. The base has stile legs featuring two short drawers over a large locker, a smaller locker and a single drawer. A stunning example of Victorian furniture, displaying perfectly the ornate detailing of the era.
